Hollywood, Iron Man, and 3D

I didn’t realize how much 3D printing was used in the movie Iron Man. Most of the suit was designed and made all by 3D printer after the amazing Jon Favreau figured out that they had the technology to do so. He wanted something realistic, something that he could put on Tony Stark, and something that was durable, but not ridiculously expensive. This was the answer.

As an audience member, we have no idea. With movie magic, they make it look like some super awesome durable steel suit.

Hollywood utilizes the crap out of 3D printing, and 3D in general. Over the last 10 years or so the 3D movie has really come back. With the IMAX running 3D movies, you can see bigger, better versions of movies. Only drawback? There are also bigger ticket prices. Going to see Transformers in 3D in Spokane, WA cost around 13 bucks a ticket for 3D, and that was years ago.

When it comes to entertainment, consumers are always looking for the next big thing. 3D printing is available to the Average Joe at home. You can print things for yourself. You can start an Etsy store. You can make the stuff we only imagined you could make. Making 3D thigs for entertainment all the way up to making 3D hands and feet. It’s basically an amazing thing for all of mankind as well as art.

What’s going to be the next big thing? Maybe it’s your hobby?
